Making the "Healthy Relationships" Curriculum Accessible for Students with Disabilities Attending Postsecondary Education Programs (TX UCEDD)

May 3, 2016

Christi Hays, MEd, CHES, is a Health Education doctoral student at Texas A&M University. As an undergraduate at Texas A&M, she was a peer health educator and worked to address the sexual health issues of college students. As a doctoral student, Christi works for iTP3, an OAH funded project to support innovative teen pregnancy prevention programs, and her research focuses on sexual health in under-served populations.

She has recently begun researching sexuality education for people with developmental disabilities, as the Department of Health and Kinesiology is collaborating with the Health Promotions office and research staff at the Center on Disability and Development (CDD) to develop a sexuality & healthy relationships curriculum to implement as part of the Bridge to Career (B2C) program at Texas A&M University. This program aims to increase the sexual health knowledge, attitudes, and decision-making skills to aid the students in a smooth transition to independent adulthood.
