Elaine Eisenbaum Selected Associate Director at Texas Center for Disability Studies (TX UCEDD)

Elaine Eisenbaum, PhD, has been selected as the Assistant Director for the Texas Center for Disability Studies in Austin, TX, beginning May 1, 2016. Dr. Eisenbaum received her BA in Special Education from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master's in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. She recently completed her PhD program at The University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work. Her dissertation was titled "Tobacco Use Among People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities." Dr. Eisenbaum brings with her experience in teaching, research, and evaluation in the area of disability and inclusion in many forms.

While Dr. Eisenbaum is new to this position she is not new to the AUCD network. She has worked in different capacities at the Texas Center for Disability Studies since 2011, is a former AUCD Virtual Trainee, and in 2014 she served on the Board of Directors of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities.

Prior to joining the Texas Center for Disability Studies, Dr. Eisenbaum worked as the Director of Advocacy and Operations at The Arc of Northern Virginia, and as a Program Director at L'Arche Greater Washington, DC. Outside of work, Dr. Eisenbaum has been a unified partner with Special Olympics for the past 10 years, playing tennis, bocce, bowling, volleyball, and basketball. She was a 2010 gold medalist in the National Special Olympics Games as a member of the Washington, DC unified bocce team.
