Federal Student Loan Discharge Actions

The Department of Education will work alongside the Social Security Administration to find and assist individuals with disabilities who have taken out federal student loans and may be eligible for a Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) loan discharge. Under the new process, the Department of Education and the Social Security Administration will use a data match to identify eligible borrowers and inform them of the benefits of discharging loans and the steps that are involved.
