Deborah M. Spitalnik, PhD, Professor of Pediatrics and Executive Director of The Boggs Center, NJ's UCEDD, delivered remarks at the White House in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) on November 17, 2015. The event brought together government officials, the education community, advocates and others to celebrate and reaffirm support for IDEA. Originally signed into law as the Education for All Handicapped Children Act in 1975, IDEA ensures the same educational opportunities are provided to children with and without disabilities.

In her talk, entitled, "Bending the Arc Toward Justice: IDEA and the Common Good," Spitalnik highlighted the impact of the Act and the lives that have been changed by the right to education, while also touching upon the work that still needs to be done in supporting students with disabilities in transitioning "to a life of opportunity, meaning, and contribution." Spitalnik's presentation can be viewed on the White House YouTube Channel.
