Dr. Karrie Shogren Appointed Co-Director of the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities (KY UCEDD)

Karrie A. Shogren, Ph.D. has been appointed Co-Director of the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities, the Kansas UCEDD. Dr. Shogren is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education and, in addition to her role within the KUCDD, is also Associate Director of the Beach Center on Disability, all at the University of Kansas.

Dr. Shogren's research focuses on self-determination and systems of support for students with disabilities and she has a specific interest in the multiple, nested contextual factors that impact student outcomes. Dr. Shogren has published over 85 articles in peer-reviewed journals, is the author or co-author of 10 books, and is one of the co-authors of Intellectual Disability: Definition, Classification, and Systems of Support, the 11th Edition of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities' seminal definition of intellectual disability (formerly mental retardation) as well as the Supports Intensity Scale-Children's and Adult Version. Dr. Shogren has received grant funding from several sources, including the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) and National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR). Dr. Shogren is co-Editor of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities eJournal, Inclusion, and Remedial and Special Education. Dr. Shogren earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in Psychology from The Ohio State University, a Master of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Dayton, and her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Special Education with a minor in Quantitative Research Design and Analysis from the University of Kansas.

Established in 1969 as the Kansas University Affiliated Program, the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities and is affiliated with the Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies and the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas. Co-directed by Drs. Michael Wehmeyer and Karrie Shogren, the mission of the KUCDD is, through research, training, technical assistance, and community service activities, to enhance the quality of life, self-determination, and inclusion of Kansans with developmental disabilities and their families
