Mailman Center LEND Trainee Nominated Student Social Work of the Year (FL LEND)

Mailman Center LEND trainee, Rocio de la Grana, received the 2015 Student of the Year Award from the National Association of Social Work (NASW) - Florida Miami Dade Chapter. Ms. de la Grana joined the Mailman Center as a LEND trainee and a social work intern in the Division of Pediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases, in the Spring semester of 2015.

She studies the Master of Social Work program at Florida International University (FIU). Below is a statement from a Social Worker in the community who has worked closely with Ms. de la Grana: "Ms. de la Grana has proven her leadership, dedication and commitment to the FIU community, the NASW Miami-Dade Unit and her community while maintaining a distinguished academic record. Her participation and involvement with the NASW has been stellar. She has assisted with the coordination of Continuing Education Workshops (CE) and local member events. Ms. de la Grana's unconditional commitment and support to the student body at the FIU-School of Social Work and to the NASW Miami Dade Unit members have allowed her to serve as a mentor and a support. Over the time that I have worked with Ms. de la Grana I have been able to observe her impeccable interpersonal and communication skills. She is a highly individual that is dedicated to both her academic and co-curricular career. Ms. de la Grana goes beyond her work responsibilities to help students and members with personal challenges. As an individual, Ms. de la Grana has found her true passion and desire to make a difference in the world. It is no doubt that Ms. de la Grana will continue to be a prominent agent of change in our community."
