Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities' Ken Capone Appointed By President Obama To Key Administration Post

Ken Capone, Public Policy Coordinator for People On the Go at the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities (MCDD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute, is one of eleven to be appointed by President Obama to the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. In this role, Capone will work with fellow committee members to provide advice and assistance to the President of the United States and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on a broad range of topics that impact people with intellectual disabilities and the field of intellectual disabilities.
"The extraordinary dedication these men and women bring to their new roles will greatly serve the American people," said President Obama. "I am grateful they have agreed to serve in this Administration and I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come."
The President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities is a key Administration post that promotes policies and initiatives that support independence and lifelong inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in their respective communities.
Capone joined MCDD in 2013 through a partnership with self-advocacy organization People On The Go, where he had held his position in public policy since 2010. Previously, Capone served as Director of the Cross Disability Rights Coalition of Maryland from 2004 to 2010 and also as a Legislative Intern with People On The Go of Maryland from 2004 to 2007. He is a member of the Developmental Disabilities Coalition, the Civil Rights Coalition, Community First Choice, the Developmental Disabilities Association's Waiver Advisory Committee, as well as a board member of the Maryland Disability Law Center. Capone received a Certificate in Computer Technology and Programming from Johns Hopkins University.
