Admin Essentials: MOUs and University-UCEDD Relationships

Monday, August 16, 2021
4:00 - 5:00pm ET
Location: Zoom

Webinar Description:

Recognizing that 42 UCEDDs are reapplying for the UCEDD core grant in the coming year, this installment of the Admin Essentials Series focused on MOUs and the relationships between universities and UCEDDs. The session started by reviewing findings from the August 2021 URC report on MOUs and University-UCEDD relationships. There was then open conversation on strategies, promising practices, and considerations. The roundtable discussion was facilitated by current UCEDD Directors with experience negotiating their MOUs: Derek Nord (Indiana Institute on Disability and Community) and Deborah Spitalnik (The Boggs Center - New Jersey). It is our hope that this discussion will assist UCEDDs who are navigating the relationships between their center and their host institutions ahead of their next grant reapplication.

What is the purpose of this session?

The Admin Essentials Series is a series of virtual round table discussions on pressing administrative questions. It's perfect for UCEDD Directors and Business Managers who are interested in an action-oriented discussion space to problem solve through tough administrative challenges. Each installment includes content from seasoned experts. A tip sheet of resources, strategies, and lessons learned will be developed and disseminated following each discussion.

This session will address formal and informal aspects of the University-UCEDD relationship. Since at least 2015, the UCEDD Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) has required documentation of "a written agreement (MOU) or charter with the University which specifies the:

  1. UCEDD designation as an official, independent university component;
  2. The relationships between the UCEDD and other university components;
  3. The University's commitment (including financial and other resources) to the UCEDD and the UCEDD's commitment to the university; and
  4. That the UCEDD Director reports directly to a University administrator who will represent the interests of the UCEDD within the university."

Who should participate?
This event is intended for UCEDD Directors, Business Managers, and other administrative staff but is open to all UCEDD network members.
