This webinar, sponsored by AUCD's Council on Research and Evaluation (CORE) was organized for those interested in the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) funding opportunities. It is the first of a series of CORE webinars to strengthen knowledge of research funding opportunities across the AUCD network.
Phil Beatty, Director of the Office of Research Sciences, NIDILRR will provide insights into the range of NIDILRR current and upcoming funding opportunities. Bring your questions for a Q&A session at the end of his presentation.
Phillip Beatty, PhD is the Director of the Office of Research Sciences within the National Institute on Disability, IndependentLiving, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR). He joined the organization in 2003. Before joining NIDILRR, Dr. Beatty was a Senior Research Associate at the National Rehabilitation Hospital Center for Health & Disability Research (NRH-CHDR). At the NRH-CHDR, he had the opportunity to learn from and conduct research with investigators who originally articulated and promoted the independent living research paradigm. In this position he conducted research on the health- and long-term-care experiences of people with disabilities, authoring or co-authoring twenty peer reviewed publications in this broad area. Dr. Beatty received his PhD in Sociology from American University in 2005.
Dr. Beatty’s Federal experience includes a six-month detail (2013-2014) to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP). In this position, he organized a public Committee hearing on college access and success among students with disabilities. In 2017, Dr. Beatty served as the co-Chair of the Grants Management Advisory Council (GMAC) within the Administration for Community Living. In this role he led agency-wide efforts to operationalize and optimize a wide variety of grants-making processes.
