Description

Self-Advocacy Online is an educational and networking website for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is a place to find accessible information on current topics in self-advocacy. Key areas of the site include a listing of self-advocacy groups, a video story wall, an online learning center, and research studies translated into accessible documents.

Speakers

John Smith is a Project Coordinator and researcher at the Research and Training Center on Community Living. As a person with a disability he has a strong professional and personal interest in programs and initiatives directed to the development of the capacities related to self-determination and self-advocacy among persons with disabilities, and also the social inclusion of persons with disabilities. John has also managed several research and program evaluation projects related to the development of self-determination and self-advocacy.
Mark Olson is a Project Coordinator at the Research and Training Center on Community Living where he writes curriculum and provides training to people who provide direct support. Throughout his career he has provided service to people with disabilities in recreation and inclusion, residential and daily living skills, vocational skills and advocacy.His key policy interests include health care, disability, education, workforce recognition and development, civic engagement, human rights and the environment.


Hunter Sargent is a Native American man who is a life-long resident of Minneapolis. He is also a person with a developmental disability called Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Hunter is a dynamic public speaker and has advocated on behalf of all people with disabilities, working with The Arc and People First groups in Minnesota.
