New Developments in Alternate Assessments for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities

Monday, January 9, 2012
4:00pm - 5:00pm
Location: Online

About the Webinar:

Consortia of states across the nation are developing common assessments based on common core state standards designed to ensure that students are college and career ready by the time they leave school. Two Race-to-the-Top assessment consortia are developing regular assessments in which most students with disabilities will participate. Two additional consortia are developing alternate assessments based on alternate achievement standards for students with significant cognitive disabilities

These efforts to develop assessments were described, followed by a more in-depth discussion of the work of the National Center and State Collaborative (NCSC), a consortium of 19 states working to develop an alternate assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities as well as to provide curriculum and instruction materials and professional development for the teachers of these students. NCSC works with several UCEDs, and their work was highlighted as well.
