2008 AMCHP Annual Conference

Location: Alexandria, VA

Hosted by the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, this event will offer workshops led by researchers, federal officials, advocates, health care providers and directors of state programs.

The 2008 AMCHP Conference will highlight the impact maternal and child health programs are making at the national, state and local level for women, children and families. The theme, We Are Making a Difference: Leadership, Innovation and Investment in Maternal and Child Health, will provide participants with methods, tools and resources to develop, enhance and sustain vital MCH programs and services. Sessions will focus on:

  • health equity
  • quality improvement and instituting quality for improving performance
  • partnerships: family-professional, public and private
  • leadership skills and competencies for the future workforce
  • the changing face of our nation and workforce
  • AMCHP best practices, strategies and positive outcomes
  • AMCHP's new social marketing messages, tools and resources
  • AMCHP's new legislative strategy

Special Events

Regional Baskets: An AMCHP Tradition - Each year, AMCHP conference attendees show their regional pride by bringing items that represent their state or region of the country. We compile these gifts into regional baskets and hold a drawing for these popular souvenirs of the AMCHP conference.

MacQueen Lecturship - Each year, AMCHP members nominate a leader in MCH to present the MacQueen lecture honoring John C. MacQueen, the former director of the Iowa Child Health Specialty Clinics. A pediatric neurologist, Dr. MacQueen was an advocate, innovator and educator on behalf of children with special health care needs.

Emerging Issue Roundtables: discuss emerging issues and network with your peers around priority areas in MCH
