Families are facing many challenges during this Covid-19 Public Health Crisis. If a family has a child with a disability, these challenges are magnified. This webinar will share information collected from surveys of families with children with disabilities from around the country as they cope with Covid 19. A panel of family leaders will then discuss what UCEDDS and LENDs can do to help families and their children now, and in the near future.

Presenters:

Molly Cole is the Acting Associate Director of the University of Connecticut Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. She is the parent of three children and her daughter, born in 1976, had severe disabilities and chronic illness. She passed away in January of 1995. She has been working in the field of disability and advocacy for over 40 years.

Doris Tellado, tAssistant Director holds the position of Family Leadership and Collaboration Coordinator for the Early Childhood Personnel Center (ECPC) at the Federation for Children with Special Needs. Prior to joining ECPC she spent over 23 years as Director of the Early Intervention Parent Leadership Project at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. In addition, is currently the Vice-President of the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Darla joined the ECPC Leadership Team to enhance Family Engagement and Leadership at all levels within workforce development and oversees the collaborative work across The Early Childhood TA Centers, and National Partner organizations. She works to promote parent engagement, leadership development, and utilization of technology. Her life experiences as a parent of a child with a disability fuels her passion to support policies and practices that enhance the lives of all families.

Rud and Ann Turnbull, are Co-founders and former Co-directors of the Beach Center on Disability and Distinguished Professors Emeriti of Special Education at the University of Kansas. Between them, they have authored over 40 books (including two leading textbooks now in their 7th and 8th editions) and over 500 articles and chapters. In 1999, they were selected by the National Preservation Trust in Developmental Disabilities as two of 36 individuals who have "changed the course of history for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the 20th century." Their greatest learning has come from their son, Jay Turnbull (1967-2009), who experienced multiple disabilities and whom they have always called their "best professor."
