About this Webinar:
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is under-diagnosed and under-treated in young children, particularly minority and disadvantaged children. Even with routine ASD screening, many screen-positive children fail to receive appropriate referral, evaluation, or services. Patient navigation, originally developed to address healthcare disparities, could facilitate referral, evaluation, and linkage to early intervention (EI) services. This project evaluated the effect of family navigation for children with positive ASD screening on referral, evaluation and linkage to EI services.

Presenters:
Dr. Carolyn DiGuiseppi is a Professor of Epidemiology in the Colorado School of Public Health and Professor of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. She received her medical degree from the University of Virginia, Master of Public Health from the University of Washington, and PhD from University College London. Dr. DiGuiseppi has published some 200 journal articles, book chapters, technical reports and scholarly reviews, many related to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) phenotype and etiology. She serves as Co-Principal Investigator and epidemiologist for the Study to Explore Development (SEED), was the principal investigator for the recently completed Screening and Linkage to Services for Autism (SaLSA) trial and is currently collaborating with investigators at Columbia University to examine injury-related emergency department visits and hospitalizations among children with ASD.
Jodi K. Dooling-Litfin, Ph.D. leads clinical and case management teams, and designs and implements service delivery models. She and her team provide diagnostic and developmental assessments and evaluations and provide early intervention services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities, as well as clinical services to children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, specializing in autism spectrum disorders. Jodi is a clinical child psychologist and the Director of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Rocky Mountain Human Services, a non-profit in Denver, Colorado that is contracted by the state of Colorado as the early intervention service broker for Denver County. For 25 years, Jodi has worked to improve access to evidence-based care for individuals with developmental concerns and their families. In addition to clinical and leadership work, Jodi partners with researchers to help advance our understanding of how to design effective and accessible service delivery systems.
Silvia Gutiérrez Raghunath, MBA, is native of Costa Rica. She obtained an MBA in Costa Rica. Silvia joined Denver Health in 2009 as a Senior Research Associate and she continues working in several programs assisting with all phases of implementations of bilingual Spanish/English research studies. She has a variety of experiences both in community-based programs and research. Her main research/project interests are working to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. She has more than 20 years of experience working with the Latino population in Colorado. Silvia was the patient navigator for Screening and Linkage to Services for Autism (SaLSA). Specifically, she followed up on initial positive screening and completed diagnostic evaluation and linkage to early intervention.
