About this Webinar
Learn more about the Council on Leadership & Advocacy (COLA) and how you can enhance your leadership opportunities at your UCEDD, LEND, and IDDRC. Leadership happens at all levels of the organization from the advisory boards to staff and directors of programs. In 2017, the Council on Community & Advocacy (COCA) changed their name to COLA. The new orientation of COLA focuses on leadership of individuals with lived disability experience, both from individuals and family perspectives. Across the AUCD network, there are people with disabilities and family members that are leaders in UCEDDs, LENDs, and IDDRCs. This webinar will discuss:
- The Council on Community & Advocacy's (COCA) name change and its new orientation which focuses on the leadership of individuals with lived disability experience, both from individuals and family perspectives.
- How people with disabilities and family members are leaders in UCEDDs, LENDs, and IDDRCs across the AUCD network at all levels of the organization from the advisory boards to staff and directors of programs.

Presenters
Jack Brandt is the Disability Policy Specialist at the Partnership for People with Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University, a position he has held since 2010.At the Partnership, Mr. Brandt works on various projects related to disability leadership. Mr. Brandt was a Disability Rights Advocate at the Virginia Office for Protection and Advocacy from 2008 to 2010, and a Disability Policy Consultant for the State of Virginia from 2006 to 2008. He was also a Virginia Governor's Fellow at the Office of Community Integration for People with Disabilities in 2006. Mr. Brandt was appointed as a member of the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities in 2010 and was later appointed Chairman in 2016. In 2016, he was elected as Co-Chair of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities' (AUCD) Council on Leadership and Advocacy, a position in which he still serves. Mr. Brandt received a B.A. from James Madison University and an M.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Mitchell Levitz is the Self-Advocacy Coordinator at the Westchester Institute for Human Development/UCEDD-NY and LEND Faculty. He participates in curriculum development and training on self-determination, self-advocacy and health transition; and coordinates the WIHD's Hear Our Voices Self-Advocacy Group educational meetings series. He serves on the AUCD Council on Leadership and Advocacy (COLA) steering committee; and is a staff liaison to the WIHD UCEDD Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and the national organization Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE). He has been serving as an appointed member of the NIH/NICHHD National Down Syndrome Research Consortium and co-chairs the NDSS Self-Advocacy Advisory Board (SAAB). He has contributed a self-advocacy perspective for numerous presentations, books and other publications.
Angela Martin is the Associate Director for Community Supports & Services at the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute (Michigan's UCEDD & LEND) at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She has a Master's degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. Angela has experience in resource development, curriculum design, and training programs on Self-Determination, Person Centered Planning, Family Supports and Leadership/Self-Advocacy. Angela currently serves as Family Member Co-Chair of the AUCD Council on Leadership and Advocacy (COLA)..
Mark Smith an Omaha native, joined the Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) in January, 2003 as its Consumer/Family Coordinator. MMI is the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the University Center grant program and as Family Faculty in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) grant program. He supervises the UCEDD traineeship program and grants, contracts, and related activities on disability policy, legislation, and leadership. Mark's educational experience includes earning Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Psychology from the University of Nebraska. He is also the parent of and sibling to family members with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Mark has over 40 years' experience in the Disabilities field.
