About this Webinar
This webinar will address interdisciplinary pre-service preparation and will be focusing on universities without LEND programs. This is the first installment of the eight-part Coffee and TA series, addressing the UCEDD core functions as categorized in NIRS.

- Karen Applequist, Ph.D
Training Director, Institute for Human Development Northern, Arizona University
Dr. Karen Applequist has sixteen years of experience as a faculty member in the Educational Specialties Department and is the only faculty member who specializes in early intervention and early childhood special education. She is responsible for all classes and programs in this area. As a member of two multi-site national research teams she participated on projects focused on culturally and linguistically diverse students with disabilities. She has experience with children having a wide variety of disabilities including ASD and has worked with many families and children who are Native American including members of the Apache, Hopi, Navajo, Walapai and Havasupai tribes living both on and off the reservation. Dr. Applequist has been actively involved in the IDEA Part C program, developing the program standards and has been affiliated with the AzUCD since its creation. As Training Director she is responsible for developing and managing all training activities and was instrumental in creating the Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Disability Policy and Practice. She conducts an annual seminar focusing on interdisciplinary practice, family-centered care, cultural and linguistic diversity and other topics critical to the field.
- Jolenea Ferro, Ph.D, BCBA-D
Training Director, Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, University of South Florida
Dr. Jolenea Ferro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies and the Training Director for the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, the University of South Florida Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.Dr. Ferro is a Ph.D. in special education at the University of Florida and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst - Doctoral. She has experience developing interventions and supports for learners with severe behavior problems. Her research focuses on functional assessment and implementation of positive behavioral supports in natural settings. She has experience providing inservice and preservice education. Prior to her appointment in CFS, she co-directed the online Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Behavior Support Specialist Certificate programs at the University of Arizona.
