Description
The webinar focused on two critical aspects of family participation in Part C systems and services. The first involved caregiver understanding and orientation to their rights and responsibilities as recipients of Part C services. The second aspect spoke on effective family involvement in local and state interagency coordinating councils. The presenters include a current and past members of the Board of the Early Intervention Family Alliance. Both discussed in detail their state curricula on family involvement trainings they have conducted over the past several years as well as the outcomes of these efforts.
Speakers
Debbie Jackson, Washington PAVE (Partnership for Action Voices for Empowerment)
Debbie is the Parent Participation Coordinator for the Washington state Early Support for Infants and Toddlers program and works at PAVE. She is responsible for providing information, training and technical assistance that increases awareness of family centered practices and the family role in early intervention.
Mark Smith, MS, Nebraska Center on Disabilities and the Nebraska Department of Education
Mark serves as Institute liaison to national and local disability policy programs and initiatives. He develops/improves statewide systemic supports for individuals with disabilities and families and serves as staff to the Institute Community Advisory Board. In addition he serves on interdisciplinary committees at the Institute, develops curricula and supervises and train students.
