The Easter Seals Family Support Navigator Academy is a free 2-day training conference for parents of children with disabilities and self advocates, in partership with the Developmental Disabilities Institute of Wayne State University (MI UCEDD). The conference is designed to train family members and self advocates how to discover, access, and use their local services and supports to strengthen
their families.
Attendees are responsible for their own travel and hotel expenses. Easter Seals has negotiated a meeting rate of $99/night (plus tax) for hotel rooms. A limited number of stipends are available for parents and self advocates. These stipends are to be used to help cover out-of-pocket expenses for participating in the Academy.
The Family Support Academy will train Navigators in the philosophy, ethics, and skills needed to implement a family-centered, empowerment model of support. At the end of the 2-day Academy, participants will create action plans that they will implement in their home communities. Academy staff will provide follow along support to assist participants become proficient in navigation. Participants will build personalized toolkits of evidence-based practices and skills and complete a navigation portfolio that will be reviewed by the Academy staff.
The Academy is limited to 100 attendees. Interested Individuals must apply to attend.
