That "assignment" eventually lead her to the UW LEND Program, where she is a second year Family Fellow.=0D=0A=0D=0AIn addition to her participation in the LEND Program, she is a consultant on a research project at Seattle Children's Hospital about mindfulness and its benefits for parents of children with special healthcare needs. She also recently completed a fellowship at the WA State Developmental Disabilities Council and is a trained National Alliance on Mental Illness "Family 2 Family" Program instructor.=0D=0A=0D=0AWhen Shayla can carve out some spare time, she enjoys sleeping, eating, partaking in outdoor adventures with her family, reading and of course thrifting...in that order.=0D=0A=0D=0ANell Koneczny=0D=0A2018-2019 AUCD Emerging Leader Intern=0D=0AInstitute on Disability and Human Development, IL=0D=0ANell Koneczny is a PhD student at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in Disability Studies. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and European Studies at Vanderbilt University. In 2017-18, she was an AUCD UCEDD Diversity Fellow. Under this support and with a disabled student group at UIC, she co-created an accessible classroom training for UIC faculty, administrators, and teaching assistants. This training introduced instructors and university decision-makers to disability culture, disability community, and practices that make classrooms welcoming for disabled students. Her doctoral research examines professor perspectives on disability, accessibility and inclusion in the classroom. Along with her academic work, she is a disability justice activist who focuses on promoting and cultivating accessible spaces. In her free time, Nell enjoys watching Disney movies and playing Pokemon.=0D=0A=0D=0AAndy Imparato=0D=0AExeuctive Director=0D=0AAssociation of University Centers on Disabilities=0D=0AAndrew Imparato has served as executive director of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) since 2013. As a disability rights lawyer and policy professional with more than 25 years of experience in government and advocacy roles, Imparato has worked with bipartisan policymakers to advance disability policy at the national level in the areas of civil rights, workforce development, and disability benefits. Prior to coming to AUCD, he was senior counsel and disability policy director for Chairman Tom Harkin on the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Before that, he spent 11 years as President and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities, a national organization working to grow the political and economic power of the disability community. Imparato's perspective is informed by his personal experience with bipolar disorder.=0D=0A=0D=0AChristine Liao=0D=0ASr. Program Specialist=0D=0AAssociation of University Centers on Disabilities=0D=0AChristine Liao is a Senior Program Specialist for AUCD's Maternal and Child Health technical assistance team. Christine also provides support to the UCEDD's technical assistance team.
