In addition to networking, grantees received an overview of grant requirements and project expectations.=0D=0A=0D=0AFor more information and to view speaker presentations, log in to the State Disability and Health Grantees Sharing Site.=0D=0A=0D=0AMeeting Site=0D=0A=0D=0AThis meeting site was carefully chosen by AUCD project staff with the help of an external site selection company, CDC project staff, and self-advocates. The site selection process is described below.=0D=0A=0D=0A1. AUCD staff selected a site solutions consulting company to help identify hotels that meet the necessary accessibility criteria. The company, which specializes in ADA accessibility, was briefed on anticipated attendee needs.=0D=0A=0D=0A2. The site selection company provided details on numbers of hotel guest rooms with roll-in showers, hotel guest rooms with accessible bathrooms, accessibility of hotel meeting space, as well as other amenities and services impacting accessibility and satisfaction.=0D=0A=0D=0A3. AUCD staff scheduled on-site evaluations at three Atlanta hotels that appeared to meet accessibility requirements in the written assessments. Two AUCD staff members, two NCBDDD project staff members, and a self-advocate who is well-versed in ADA law participated in site evaluations. AUCD staff used a modified accessibility checklist to perform detailed evaluations of the accessibility of features of each hotel. This checklist is based off of several resources including the ADA Checklist for New Lodging Facilities, Accessible Customer Service Practices for Hotel and Lodging Guests with Disabilities, Checklist for Readily Achievable Barrier Removal, and Planning Accessible Meetings and Events. Staff assessed accessibility of guest rooms, guest bathrooms, accessible bathrooms with roll-in showers, and accessible bathrooms with bathtubs. Staff also assessed interior hotel paths, meeting spaces, elevators, public area restrooms, parking availability and accessibility, public transportation options, and on-site shops and restaurants.=0D=0A=0D=0A4. After assessing accessibility at each of the three hotels, AUCD staff requested pictures of demonstrated accessibility in guest rooms, meeting space, and nearby meeting restrooms. =0D=0A=0D=0A5. The 2012 meeting site was selected because of its number of accessible guest rooms and guest bathrooms, and demonstrated accessibility throughout the hotel. The Atlanta Marriott Marquis has 28 accessible rooms with Queen/King Beds and 14 accessible rooms with two Double Beds, 17 of which have roll-in showers. They have 27 rooms equipped for guests with hearing impairments. The hotel is conveniently located near local attractions accessible by sidewalks and pathways. The hotel also has underground access to the Peachtree Center MARTA station.
