UCEDD Annual Report Logic Model and Proposed Performance Measures Details Presenters: Jennifer Johnson, EdD, Supervisory Program Specialist, ADD Robert Bacon, MA, UCEDD Director, Center for Disabilities and Development, University of Iowa Elizabeth Bishop, MSSW, Community Education / Dissemination Coordinator, Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities, The University of Tennessee Summary: This webinar will provide an overview of the final UCEDD Logic Model that was developed by the Annual Report Workgroup. It will also provide an overview of ADD's proposed annual performance measures based on this logic model. Implementation is anticipated for FY2013. There will be ample opportunity for questions, and participants are encouraged to review materials in advance of the webinar. AUCD will collect comments related to methods and format for data collection to inform these proposed annual performance measures, and request volunteers to complete final activities related to this process. The Results are In: Using Early Childhood Outcome Data Details Presenters: Dr. Kathy Hebbeler Summary: In February 2011, state agencies overseeing early intervention and preschool special education submitted required data on child outcomes to the Office of Special Education Programs for the fourth time. The background for the national data collection will be presented along with the approaches states are using to collect these data. Analyses of the nationaldata will be shared and discussed with particular attention to the questions of whether the data are trustworthy and, if so, what these data say about the effectiveness of IDEA services for young children with disabilities. Community Engagement Initiative: A Topical Webinar Details Presenters: Danielle Bailey, MPH Oregon Office on Disability and Health Summary: This topical webinar features Danielle Bailey from the Oregon Office on Disability and Health presenting on the Community Engagement Initiative (CEI). The CEI establishes community partnerships to reduce barriers to participation for people with disabilities. This project focuses on health care access and is based on the premise that a disability does not equal ill health. Danielle will be talking about implementation in Oregon, where the initiative was first launched, and how communities have begun making measurable improvements in access to health care for people with disabilities. Korean Study on Prevalence of Autism: Findings and Implications Details Presenters: Bennett Leventhal, MD is Deputy Director of the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research as well as Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Summary: The Epidemiology of Autism Spectrum Disorder has long been a matter of interest. The particular focus of this interest has been related to the prevalence of this clinical syndrome. Since Autism was identified as a distinct syndrome by Dr. Leo Kanner in 1942, the has been considerable speculation about the actual prevalence of ASD and whether increasing incidence is contributing to the rise in prevalence. This is because studies over the past 40-50 years have reported progressive larger ASD prevalence with original rates reported to be 5 cases/10,000 with more later studies reporting prevalence ranging from 0.6-1.1%. More recently, the first complete population study of ASD reported a prevalence of 2.64% or 1 in 38. Initially regarded as an astounding large prevalence, careful examination provides interesting insights into the phenomenon of ASD and sets the stage for further investigations and models for intervention. We examine autism epidemiology in detail and explore its implications for future research and clinical practice.
