Current and past editions of AUCD Legislative News In Brief are posted through the AUCD Website.  These weekly one to two-page updates are intended to keep association members informed about federal legislative and regulatory issues affecting people with disabilities, their families and the network of AUCD programs and centers.

Recent Policy Issues and Events

May 23, 2006: Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) on Disability Research Priorities.  The ICDR is holding a meeting to seek comments from the public with respect to the federal disability and rehabilitation research agenda. This dialogue with the public is of critical importance, and we are encouraging individuals with disabilities, persons who service provider organizations, disability and rehabilitation research and policy groups and representatives of advocacy organizations with specialized knowledge and experience, to suggest specific ways to improve future research for individuals with disabilities. All individuals planning to attend the public meeting, including those presenting comments, must make reservations by May 9, 2006, by contacting Robert Jaeger at (202) 245-7386. Department of Education Offers States New Tool Kit for Teaching and Assessing Students with Disabilities.  April 25, The "Tool Kit on Teaching and Assessing Students with Disabilities" was released by John H. Hager, OSER Assistant Secretary, and Henry Johnson, OESE Assistant Secretary, during the annual legislative conference of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).  U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings said the resource would help states address the needs of more of their students in meeting the high expectations prompted by No Child Left Behind.

United States Congress and Health Policy Tutorials.  The Kaiser Family Foundation published new tutorials on Congress and health policy and disability care.
