NEWS FROM THE AUCD NATIONAL OFFICE

Attend the 2008 Disability Policy Seminar - Registration is Now Open. Scheduled for March 2­-4, 2008 in Washington, DC. AUCD, the Arc of the United States, United Cerebral Palsy, the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities will look to our extensive grassroots networks to advocate in a bipartisan manner for national public policies promoting the full inclusion of people with disabilities in our society. The theme Advancing Disability Policy in an Election Year will also offer a pragmatic view on the unique challenges and opportunities facing the Congress and White House as the 2008 political campaign proceeds. Download the "save the date" to post / distribute at your organization, and register online through AAIDD's website.

 

2007 Network Report

2007 AUCD Network Report. This report provides data and information on work performed in FY2007 and the impact of that work on the lives of people with disabilities by AUCD and the three national networks it supports and represents. The report is available on our website in PDF and plain text. Copies were disseminated at the Annual Meeting and each Center was sent 10 complimentary copies. Additional copies are available at a nominal charge.

Laura Martin Hired as AUCD's Director of Operations. Laura Martin served most recently as the operations director for a non-profit in Washington, DC called Women In Government where she was responsible for managing the office administration, HR, finance and technology functions of the organization as well as coordinating their Board of Directors program. Prior to Women In Government, Laura was the In-Kind Donations Manager at the American Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, DC, where she led the in-kind training and support of volunteers and Red Cross chapters nationwide for disaster response as well as day to day in-kind donations management. Laura is a 1992 graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with BA's in Art History and Journalism. She currently resides with her family in Silver Spring, MD. We all are looking forward to working with Laura and hope you will welcome her to the network.

Thoughts from the 2007-2008 AUCD Virtual Trainee Terri Abrams. Hello, I am the Family Trainee from the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD/LEND) at University of Rochester in New York. I am the Virtual Trainee for this year which means that I will be working on connecting trainees from around the country via the internet. I just returned from the AUCD Annual Conference where I met many of the current and future leaders in the Developmental Disabilities arena--over the next few weeks I will be sharing my experiences on the Trainee portion of the website --check back and see!
