Special Issue from Review of Disability Studies: An International Journal (RDS) on Disability and Disaster.  "Parting the Waters:  Disability and Deliverance in the Wake of Disaster" is a special forum of RDS.  The forum includes articles focused on current events, theory, literature, and historical perspectives within the context of events such as Hurricane Katrina, 9/11, AIDS in Africa, the Southeast Asian Tsunami, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the Montreal Ice Storm.  You can currently review the issue online by clicking on the above hypertext.  RDS is published by the Center for Disability Studies (HI UCEDD).  Print copies of this special issue can be purchased for $20.00 ($25.00 outside the U.S. and Canada). 

Battle Cries: Justice for Kids with Special Needs (Book).  This book, authored by Miriam Edelson, is a call to action on behalf of children with disabilities and their families.  Voices of mothers and fathers speak to the joys and challenges (economic, political, and cultural) confronted in raising children with scarce resources.  Edelson lays out a clear and thorough map of current services and supports available to children with disabilities and their parents in Canada, followed by a discussion of various impediments these families face in an effort to achieve true inclusion in society.  For more information or to order, go to Sumach Press Website, contact 416-531-6250, or email [email protected].
