Project Description
The University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies, Maine's UCEDD, was established in 1992 to increase Maine's capacity to address the needs of people with developmental disabilities and their families. CCI's mission, created in partnership with its Community Advisory Committee, guides its work. CCIDS will meet its mission through an emphasis on systems change that supports inclusive communities. CCIDS proposes to address six areas of emphasis: Education and Early Intervention; Childcare; Health; Employment; Housing; and Other Community Participation including transportation, recreation, technology, and criminal justice. Areas of emphasis will be addressed within these goals: 1. That Maine supports a system of undergraduate and graduate interdisciplinary education that incorporates the principles of inclusion, diversity, universal design/access, and social justice in its content and deliver methods. 2. Ensure that Maine has models of community education and technical assistance that reflect culturally competent, value-based, current and emerging evidence-based practice, relevant to the lives of people with IDD and related disabilities, to build capacity and create systems that reflect the principles of inclusion, diversity, university design/access, and social justice. 3. That Maine conduct collaborative research, evaluation, and policy analysis that inform public policies and practice that affect the lives of individuals with IDD, their families, and communities. 4. Produce and disseminate throughout Maine and the UCEDD Network, information that is accessible and culturally competent, reflects current emerging evidence-based practices, and informs public policy and practice to effectively address the needs of individuals with IDD.
