Project Description
Nevada Path to Independence Project is an inclusive, two-year non-degree certificate program for students with intellectual/developmental disabilities at UNR. It is a collaboration of the Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities and Extended Studies at UNR, with support from Vocational Rehabilitation and Sierra Regional Center. In order to achieve outcomes of employment and independence, the project is structured into three areas: Academics & Campus Activities, Employment, and Independent Living.

The pilot program, with one student, began fall semester 2013. Two new student were added fall 2014. For the 2019-2020 school year, P2I has 13 students.

In 2016, P2I was designated as a Comprehensive Transition Program by the U.S. Dept. of Education, which enables students to apply for Federal Student Aid. In addition, in 2018 P2I was certified as a Jobs & day Training (JDT) provider, enabling P2I to bill for educational coaches.
