Project Description
Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic
The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Clinic provides families with initial autism evaluations, as well as re-evaluations and behavioral consults. The evaluation assesses the child or adolescent?s developmental strengths, skills and needs. Parents are able to discuss their child with a psychologist who also evaluates the child?s developmental and behavioral abilities. Depending on the referral question, parents/guardians are given a complete developmental and behavioral profile of the child, psychological recommendations, and/or relevant diagnoses.

The evaluation consists of a review of the child?s previous medical, educational, and therapeutic records, a clinical interview with the parents and other significant care providers, and an assessment of the child?s current developmental abilities. The developmental and behavioral assessments are completed by the psychological team and may consist of structured and unstructured play-based observation and interactions, a clinical interview and standardized testing.

At a follow-up appointment, findings and recommendations are discussed among the team, including parents, to develop ideas for supports and services and to provide a diagnosis when appropriate. A formal report is given to the parents and a copy is sent to the referring doctor or Primary Care Physician.
