Project Description
PAY Check prepares students with disabilities who are eligible for VR services in an Order of Selection category currently served by LRS, age 18-22 years to support their acquisition and use of Pre-Employment Transition skills (PETS), Job Readiness and Job Placement. PAY Check will provide participants training and opportunities to practice using Pre-ETS competently using a variety of strategies and components such as, work-based learning experiences, which include experiences outside the traditional school setting (e.g., college campus, various community settings/activities, paid apprenticeship sites). All of these experiences occur in integrated environments and provide the foundation for Workplace Readiness Training. Students also receive instruction on self-advocacy including 1) social skills and independent living training and life skills, such as, stress management, personal care, confidence building, and daily work related behaviors. Some of the work-related training is in the areas of, punctuality, dependability, motivation, and the ability to follow instructions; and 2) job exploration skills, interviewing skills, resume writing (creating resumes/cover letters), completing job applications, participating in mock interviews, directed job search, and other work related situations are addressed.
