Project Description
The Center for Disabilities was contacted by Flutter Productions to assist with an evaluation of a three-year initiative funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities seeking to create humanities communities that can foster increased inclusion and interaction among disabled and non-disabled communities.

Goals and objectives include ...

This initiative is unique in that it represents one of the, if not the, only "all ability" artistic endeavor pairing PWDs and individuals without disabilities. In addition, Flutter Productions already employees discussions among the cast and crew to underscore how these interactions shape the cast, and they also host an audience "talkback" after the play to explore themes the audience found most salient, how the production might have changed how individuals who do not have disabilities interact with PWDs, and actions the audience may take as a result of seeing the play.

Expected benefits include empowerment and increased confidence among PWDs who are involved with the production; possibly decreased alienation and stigmatization among PWDs, including those not directly involved in the production; increased interaction among PWDs and others in the community to illustrate the wealth of potential existing among PWDs, which could stimulate further collaboration and has already led to possible employment opportunities for PWD.
