SALLIE PORTER is an assistant professor at Rutgers School of Nursing based in Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Porter primarily teaches students in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialty program. Her teaching assignments include pediatric primary care courses as well as genetics and genomics, social determinants of health, and research courses. Dr. Porter also serves as the Nursing Discipline Coordinator for the New Jersey LEND program located at the Boggs Center/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick.

Dr. Porter holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Georgetown University, a Master of Science in Parent-Child Nursing from Rutgers University, a post-Masters Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certificate from Seton Hall University, a PhD in Urban Systems from the joint program of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry (UMDNJ), and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from UMDNJ.

Dr. Porter is board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse, and Advanced Practice Nurse. Dr. Porter is a Fellow, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. She was recently elected to Distinguished Fellowship of the National Academies of Practice.  She co-chairs the Developmental Behavioral Mental Health Special Interest Group of the Society of Pediatric Nurses.

Dr. Porter has spent over 34 years working with infants and young children with health, development, and social challenges and their families in a variety of mostly community-based settings including early intervention, home care, case management, and medical day care.

Dr. Porter’s most recent publications include: “Infants with Delirium: A Primer for Prevention, Recognition and Management,” “Infants with Congenital Zika Virus Infection: A New Challenge for Early Intervention Professionals,” "Infographics: A New Tool for the Nursing Classroom," and the chapter “Critical Appraisal” in Comprehensive Systematic Review for Advanced Practice Nursing.
