Vita/Bio

Rachel Gahan, MS, OTR/L is an occupational therapist at UAB’s Civitan Sparks Clinics where she was worked since 2018. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Currently, she is pursuing a master's degree in Public Health with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health, anticipated in 2022. She is also pursuing the level 1 handwriting certification from Learning Without Tears. Rachel is involved in training, providing clinical services and research. She is one of the clinical supervisors for level II occupational therapy students on site and has participated in special projects including the LEND grant renewal and Medicaid Psychoeducational training development. She has served as an independent contractor with Foster the Future Alabama, a local non-profit that aims to bridge gaps in therapy services for children in foster care. Rachel has presented short courses and posters at state and national conferences as well as with local audiences. She serves on the executive board of the Alabama Occupational Therapy Association (ALOTA) as Treasurer and is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and UAB Civitan International Research Center. In 2021, she was awarded the Occupational Therapy Award of Excellence by ALOTA.
