Vita/Bio

Dr. Harolyn Belcher, is a Professor of Pediatrics who is jointly appointed in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She is the Founding Director of the Center for Diversity in Public Health Leadership Training at Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Belcher is double boarded in Pediatrics and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.

Dr. Belcher is the former Director of Research for the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress- a community-based mental health center that provides evidence-based mental health treatment focusing on children with a history of abuse and neglect and exposure to community and/or domestic violence. Dr. Belcher was the Principal Investigator on two National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) grants promoting evidence and trauma-informed mental health treatment for children exposed to trauma (i.e., child maltreatment, community violence, domestic violence and parental risk factors).  She is the co-director of two CDC-funded and HRSA-funded programs to promote health equity through mentorship experiences in public health research, maternal and child health (MCH), and health policy. Over 500 scholars participated in these research leadership and diversity programs. In addition, Dr. Belcher coordinates the annual Room to Grow: Journey to Cultural and Linguistic Competency conference for maternal and child health trainees, residents, clinicians, community members, and faculty. Dr. Belcher currently serves on two National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine boards, Board on Children, Youth, and Families and the Forum on Child –Cognitive, Affective and Behavioral Health.
