As you begin the current academic year and look forward to a new cohort of trainees, we recognize the importance of delivering information and resources that may be timely to MCH training programs - including items that may support remote training as your programs and our country continue to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is our hope that you find the content of this newsletter useful in supporting the work of your faculty, staff, and trainees.
You'll notice that the newsletter sections mirror the AUCD Strategic Map priority areas. In doing so, we wish to highlight network resources and efforts that guide our collective work and mission.
Grow Diverse and Skilled Leaders
This section will highlight resources / opportunities for leadership at all levels by cultivating and equipping leaders with the skills to engage communities and improve systems.
Newly Added Training Toolbox Strategies!
ITAC's Training Toolbox serves as resource for programs to share innovative training strategies/activities on topics related to leadership and Maternal and Child Health. This Toolbox makes it easy for your program to browse through different, proven methods used by other programs to teach important concepts to trainees. This year, we are adding/highlighting new Toolbox strategies each quarter that align with MCH Leadership Competencies. By clicking the link you will be able to learn more details about each strategy, associated learning objectives, benefits, supplemental resources/links, and the challenges/lessons learned. There are nearly 120 total strategies to browse!
- #12 (Policy): Trainees come to Cincinnati LEND with a wide range of policy and advocacy experience, exposure and interest. The policy and advocacy curriculum is designed to provide all trainees with an understanding of the legislative process and the policy issues impacting people with disabilities, including the training and supports to actively educate policymakers.

This webinar walked participants through the history of the NDD Core Curriculum Resources, how to access them at their new home on AUCD's SharePoint site, and shared examples of how these resources can be used to build or supplement their training activities. Save the Date! 2020 MCH Workforce Development Virtual Grantee Meeting - September 30, 2020
This annual meeting is an opportunity for Division of Maternal and Child Health Workforce Development (DMCHWD) grantees to convene around a cross-cutting topic of interest. The meeting will address the MCH Leadership Competency on self-reflection, specifically how to integrate strategies for resilience into grantees' programs. The meeting will underscore the value of self-reflection towards achieving balance between personal and professional life, with special attention to how grantees are applying self-reflection and resiliency during the global pandemic. OMH Announces Upcoming Virtual Symposium to Advance the Response to COVID-19
On Thursday, September 17, 2020, the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) is hosting a virtual symposium to highlight state, tribal, territorial and community-based efforts to address COVID-19 among racial and ethnic minority populations. The Advancing the Response to COVID-19: Sharing Promising Programs and Practices for Racial and Ethnic Minority Communities virtual symposium will feature presentations and strategies developed for public health leaders and community organizations confronting the pandemic.
Making Connections: The Critical Role of Family-Centered Care in Addressing Social Determinants of Health for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN)
The National Resource Center for Patient/Family-Centered Medical Home, in partnership with Bright Futures National Center and the Screening Technical Assistance and Resource Center, has implemented a 2-part webinar series, Making Connections: The Critical Role of Family-Centered Care in Addressing Social Determinants of Health for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN). The goal of this series was to provide state Title V Maternal and Child Health / CYSHCN programs, pediatricians, families and others with information about the impact of social determinants of health (SDoH) on CYSHCN and their families, including implementation strategies for state programs. The series discussed the role of these groups and state systems in addressing SDoH for CYSHCN by using components of the medical home model of care.

AUCD Urges Action to Protect Civil Rights
AUCD urges individuals and organizations to share their objections to any effort that diminishes critical civil rights protections. Members of Congress need to hear from you. Use this opportunity to educate your Senators and Representatives about the importance of civil rights protections to all, including the millions of Americans with disabilities and their families.
Now Archived! Supporting Families in the Post-COVID World: Using Technology to Maximize Reach and Remain Connected
During this webinar, speakers from two large rural states described approaches they've used to stay connected and support families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their use of distance technology were highlighted as a means of reducing exposure to COVID-19 and in maximizing the reach of their efforts. The programs featured are the University of Wyoming's ECHO for Families and the Autism Family Support Program at the University of South Dakota Center for Disabilities.
Save the Date! 21st Annual Chronic Illness and Disability Conference: Transition from Pediatric to Adult-Based Care - October 29-30, 2020
Each year, AUCD supports the live broadcast of Baylor College of Medicine's Chronic Illness and Disability Conference: Transition from Pediatric to Adult-Based Care. This is a unique and low-cost professional development and learning opportunity for faculty, staff, and trainees from LENDs, DBPs, UCEDDs, and IDDRCs. It can also be a great way to engage community partners, including leaders from self-advocacy and family organizations. CART captioning will be provided for all broadcast sessions. Read more.
Updated Six Core Elements 3.0 and revamped Got Transition site
Got Transition®, the federally funded national resource center on health care transition (HCT), has developed new and improved tools, resources, and a revamped website for clinicians, youth/young adults, and parents/ caregivers to assist youth and young adults (with and without special health care needs) as they move from a pediatric model to an adult-centered model of health care.
HHS Telemedicine Hack: A 10-week Learning Community to Accelerate Telemedicine Implementation for Ambulatory Providers
Although telemedicine use has grown exponentially during the COVID-19 pandemic, many ambulatory providers still lack the knowledge and skills needed to implement video-based telemedicine into their practices. To support wide adoption of telemedicine, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response is partnering with the ECHO Institute at the University of New Mexico and the Public Health Foundation's TRAIN Learning Network to deliver a 10-week, virtual peer-to-peer learning community called Telemedicine Hack.

Explore the power of the disability vote; 31.7% of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities voted in 2016 compared to 61.4% of all Americas; This year 35 million eligible voters are people with disabilities ; Understand how the COVID 19 Emergency will impact voting and Get connected to tools that help empower persons with disabilities and their families. The Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) is pleased to announce that the IACC Strategic Plan For Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) 2018-2019 Update is now available. This publication provides summaries of committee activities in 2018 and 2019 that address the seven topic areas identified in the 2016-2017 IACC Strategic Plan for ASD.

Now Archived! 2020 LEND Directors Meeting
Thank you again to everyone who made our 2020 Virtual LEND Directors Meeting a huge success! Over 100 leaders from across the LEND network joined us for the two-day event. Your presence and willingness to opt-in to our virtual environment stimulated numerous ideas, posed many questions, and generated a variety of new connections. The ITAC team, in coordination with our Project Advisory Committee and MCHB, will review and prioritize the TA requests identified during the meeting. AUCD Announced as Partner in AIR-P Network
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects 1 in 54 children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As autistic children age into adulthood, health-related behaviors that may develop in childhood can have long-term consequences. Diet and exercise can impact cardiovascular risk, particularly in families with a history of hypertension, diabetes or cardiac complications. Autistic children and adults often do not get the recommended preventive services, such as immunizations or lab tests for cholesterol and diabetes. Autistic adults often do not get screened appropriately for cancer.

The Online Learning Modules introduce new Data Coordinators to the National Information Reporting System (NIRS). The goal is for new Data Coordinators to be able to learn to use NIRS and understand federal reporting requirements. Read more.

This webinar introduced UCEDD, LEND, DBP, PPC, and LEAH Directors and Data Coordinators to the changes made in the FY 2021 iteration of NIRS.
