American Sign Language & English Bilingual Early Childhood Deaf Education: Birth to 5 Certificate Program

This Graduate certificate program is designed to offer a program of study for in-service and pre-service professionals who work with or are seeking careers working with deaf and hard of hearing children from birth to 5 years old and their families in educational settings.

Fall 2013 Disability Studies Undergrad class: DIS 397: Disability History and Culture: From Homer to Hip Hop

It is designated as a Writing Intensive focus class and is limited to 20 students per section. It will again be an online, asynchronous class, so available to anyone, anywhere, who signs up within the University of Hawaii parameters. See the last point (3 below). And even though it's an undergrad class, there is a way for grad students to take it.

New Online CONNECT Courses to Offer CEU and Training Credit

CONNECT modules are practice-focused instructional resources for faculty and other professional development providers. CONNECT modules are designed using a 5-Step Learning CycleTM, an approach for making evidence-based decisions about practice dilemmas, based on the integration of multiple sources of evidence. The modules are designed to build early childhood practitioners' abilities to make evidence-based decisions.

Universal Design for Learning Seminar

The Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky will present a free seminar about Universal Design for Learning, from 1-3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15. This seminar will provide participants with a framework and skills to incorporate UDL strategies in the postsecondary setting, as well as a basic "tool kit" of skills to use when approaching teaching and learning. Participants will also be presented with examples of innovative uses of UDL elements in higher education.

New Online Undergraduate Course from University of Hawaii Disability Studies Program: Creating Accessible Futures

This course is designed for undergraduate students in a variety of disciplines concerned with disability and diversity issues. The course is open to currently enrolled UH students and to non-UH students (via the UH Outreach College). This course will examine accessibility in technology and web based applications as well as the built environment. It will explore shared public spaces and innovative solutions for inclusive and sustainable community living at home, work, & play. Students examine how communities respond to the needs of people with disabilities using a policy and program planning framework. This is an asynchronous online class with an optional live class session available weekly on Tuesdays, 1:30pm - 3:00pm HST, August 22-December 5, 2012.

UIC MCH Leadership Development and Coaching Program

The UIC MCH Program is currently accepting applications for the UIC MCH Leadership Development and Coaching Program which will begin in January 2012. This is a 6-month, distance-based program that includes 6-monthly, 1-hour calls focused on Authentic Leadership Development: Strengths Based Leadership, Values-Based Leadership and Decision-Making, Self-Awareness, Emotional-Intelligence, Ideal-Self, Work-Life Balance, Self-Care, and Whole Life Leadership. Each participant also meets with a personally assigned, certified, professional coach in two, 45-minute phone sessions every month. Additionally, participants identify a set of unique goals s/he will work towards over the course of the program.
