Translation of the Survey of Well-being of Young Children (SWYC) into Tagalog, Samoan, and Chuukese
The California-Leadership in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Program (LEND) Program at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, directed the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB)-funded Health Professional Support Program for Children with Zika Virus Infection in American Samoa and the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Basin. After working with American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam and traveling to American Samoa, the CA-LEND team collectively identified that developmental screening tools were not available in languages that are commonly spoken in the islands

Autism CARES/LEND Act Funding Alert
The President's FY 2019 Budget Request eliminates funding for the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) Autism CARES Act programs. This $47 million cut includes the $31.3 million appropriation for LEND programs. The national network of LEND programs would be eliminated. LEND directors, health professionals, trainees, families and allies must educate their Members of Congress about why this training program is important and why it must not be eliminated.

Distance Learning Technology Resources: Tools for Interdisciplinary Training Programs
New AUCD Resource Helps Programs Leverage Technology to Support Training
Technology can be a powerful tool for training healthcare professionals across multiple locations, enabling the exchange of ideas and practices that can benefit communities - including those that have been traditionally underserved. This new package of resources supports the increased use and effectiveness of distance learning technologies across AUCD network training programs and in the healthcare field more broadly. Included are a series of tables that break down the types of distance learning tools programs/centers are (or could potentially be) using across the spectrum of training activities. Users can access information about the software, tools, platforms, etc. which support specific functionalities, such as: ease of use, typical costs, reported use by programs, and accessibility features.

Family and Individual Needs for Disability Supports (FINDS) Survey

The 2017 FINDS survey aims is to learn more about the experiences of parents and family members who provide support to a family member with an intellectual or developmental disability. To participate, the caregiver must be 18 years or older and provide primary paid/unpaid and frequent support to a family member or friend with an intellectual or developmental disability living in the United States (and U.S. territories). This survey is not for direct support professionals�we need the perspective of family caregivers, paid or unpaid.

AUCD's Letter Expressing Concern Regarding Betsy DeVos's Responses to Questions about Education for Students with Disabilities
AUCD has submitted a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, expressing serious concerns with several responses to questions that Betsy DeVos provided at her confirmation hearing to be the next Secretary of Education. As the Senate moves to vote on her nomination, AUCD calls upon Mrs. DeVos to clarify her support for the federal government's role in ensuring that every child with a disability receives a free, appropriate public education in a manner that is consistent with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

AUCD Welcomes 2017 Board of Directors
AUCD is governed by an elected Board of Directors that includes professionals, individuals with disabilities, and family members. On December 7, 2016, we thanked outgoing Board members for their dedicated service and welcomed the members of the 2017 AUCD Board of Directors.
