Mailman Center for Child Development Faculty Awarded Dual Grants to Improve Language Skills for Children with Hearing Loss
Investigators Dr. Lynn Perry and Dr. Daniel Messinger at the University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences Department of Psychology have been awarded federal funding to study the development of children with hearing loss at the University of Miami's Debbie Institute, which is affiliated with Mailman Center for Child Development. Children with hearing loss are less likely to read at grade-level than their typically hearing peers'a gap that exists as early as preschool.

AUCD Invites Host Applications for the Spring 2020 Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Disability Employment (PFP-IDE)
AUCD is excited to invite host applications for the Spring 2020 Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Disability Employment (PFP-IDE). PFP-IDE is a U.S. Department of State professional exchange program that enables emerging disability rights leaders from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to participate in a five-week Fellowship in the U.S. where they will learn about disability advocacy and inclusive employment. Hosts will provide mentorship to the Professional Fellows and will collaborate to develop an inclusive employment project for their home countries.

Dr. Jeff Brosco Receives 2019 MCHB's Directors Award
Jeffrey Brosco, MD, PhD, Associate Director, Mailman Center for Child Development, was the recipient of the 2019 MCHB prestigious Director's Award from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Colorado LEND/UCEDD Fellow Policy Day
Colorado's JFK Partners LEND and UCEDD fellows and faculty visited the state capitol on Feb 28, 2018. JFK Partners collaborated with The Arc of Colorado and Alliance Colorado to host IDD Awareness Day 2018 with nearly 400 participants from each of the three agencies and invited guests from state agencies and the legislature.

EHDI 2017
The 16th annual Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Meeting brought together over 1,000 diverse stakeholders on February 26-28 in Atlanta, GA. The EHDI Meeting was organized by American Academy of Pediatrics, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: HRSA, and National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management at Utah State University. The purpose of this national meeting was to help attendees expand opportunities for young children who are deaf and hard of hearing by enhancing implementation of comprehensive state-based EHDI programs.
