National Home Visiting Summit Hosts Its First Ever Presentation on Parents with I/DD by the Georgetown UCEDD
During the last week in February, the Georgetown University Parenting Support Program (PSP), a DC Health-funded home visiting program under the UCEDD umbrella, gave a groundbreaking presentation at the National Home Visiting Summit. It was the first presentation about home visiting services tailored to address the needs of parents identified as having intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) ever at this Summit.

Georgia State University, Emory Supporting 187 Georgia Nursing Homes COVID-19 Response via Project ECHO
As of Fall 2020, nearly one-quarter of the known COVID-19 deaths in the United States have been nursing home residents and staff. Advanced age, underlying frailty, and communal living conditions make nursing home residents especially vulnerable, and their reliance on nursing home staff members put these essential workers at high risk. The CDC and State of Georgia have prioritized nursing home residents and staff members to be the first to get the vaccine.

He'll sing the same words over and over. He'll grab himself. Sometimes, he might try to grab others. Sharon, Niko's mother, believes that if Niko didn't have Down syndrome -- an identifiable developmental disability -- the people he meets in public might have called the police on him by now.

SC LEND Trainees Attend the Nurturing Developing Minds Conference
The members of the South Carolina LEND program recently attended a state conference in March 2019 focusing on research and initiatives that are driven to create supportive environments to help children and their families flourish. The Nurturing Developing Minds conference provided several opportunities to the LEND trainees, including attending reviews of recent research and policies on developmental surveillance and screening (with a particular emphasis on the Help Me Grow nationwide initiative) and on the long-term risks of spanking and promising interventions (i.e., the No Hit Zone)

AUCD2015: Submit a Proposal Today
Deadline: June 5
AUCD is currently accepting proposals for our 2015 conference. This call for papers includes submissions for concurrent interactive presentations, concurrent panel presentations, single presentations, and posters. Proposals are welcomed on a multitude of topics on all things disability, including but certainly not limited to advocacy, behavior supports, disability studies, employment, health and wellness, leadership development, self-determination, technology, and much more.

UC (OH UCEDD), Partners Awarded Funding to Address Health Care Gaps
The University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Nursing, along with the UC College of Medicine and partners at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and UC's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, has received almost $1 million to develop programs to grow in number and better prepare practitioners to meet the primary care and mental health care needs of the Ohio Medicaid population.

Transplants for Children with Disabilities: Information for Parents
Developed by the Elizabeth M. Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities at the UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, this pamphlet contains information for families of children with disabilities on organ transplants. Topics include advocacy, important things to know, medication and diet, school programs, and the federal law.

Women's Health Care Module Now Available for Online CEUs Through Human Development Institute-University of Kentucky
This interactive, virtual patient module, focused on the needs of patients with intellectual disabilities, offers virtual practitioner and patient modeling in reducing patient anxiety about the physical exam, breast self-examinations, awareness of potential sexual activity and contraception, and issues of sexual abuse. Credits are awarded through the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation via the University of Kentucky College of Nursing
