MN UCEDD Partners with University in India to Organize International Summit on Education

The Institute on Community Integration (MN UCEDD) and Avinashilingam University for Women in Coimbatore, India, are co-sponsoring an international summit titled, Inclusion and Response to Intervention - A Global Perspective, to be held June 8-10, 2016, at Avinashilingam University. The summit is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Institute and the Department of Special Education at Avinashilingam, a collaboration funded by the Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative.

Rochester Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder (RRCASD) Offers Free Webinars to Support Individuals with ASD (NY UCEDD)

The work of RRCASD is focused on the development and promotion of region-wide resources to better meet the needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). RRCASD has expertise in providing community education, training, and technical assistance activities. The use of webinars has been a primary medium of reaching individuals on the spectrum, their families and professionals. Last year alone, more than 500 professionals and parents from across NYS participated in educational webinars offered the RRCASD.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, LEND, IDDRC) TRIAD Experiences a Growth Spurt

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, LEND, IDDRC) Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) enhanced and widened the reach of its programming in 2015 and shows no sign of slowing in 2016. From partnerships with the TN Department of Education to the design of innovative telemedicine models of service delivery, TRIAD continues to make a profound impact on improving access to autism services in TN.

IU Centers to Receive Indiana Department of Education Funding to Establish Center on Teacher Quality to Improve Outcomes for Students with Disabilities (IN UCEDD)

Indiana University�s Center on Education and Lifelong Learning and Community Living and Careers will receive funding to establish and operate the Indiana Center on Teacher Quality as part of a federally funded $5 million State Personnel Development grant to the Indiana Department of Education.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, LEND, IDDRC) Offers Online Trainings to Improve Health Care for Adults with IDD

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, LEND, IDDRC) is now offering two free, short online training series focused on improving health care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The trainings have been created by the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC), in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) and TennCare.

University of Wyoming Designated as ECHO Superhub (WY UCEDD)

The University of Wyoming was designated as one of four ECHO superhubs that will build capacity in education and health care access in the United States and around the world. The superhub is hosted through Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND), Wyoming's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities (MT UCEDD) CAC Featured Prominently at Transition Conference

Thirteen members of the Rural Institute Consumer Advisory Council (CAC) traveled to Great Falls, Montana, in November for the 2015 Montana Youth in Transition Conference. Young adult and parent CAC members presented two workshops ("Puzzle Pieces: Putting Together the Pieces of Adult Life" and "SMART Surfing: Tips for Staying Safe on the Internet"); co-presented with representatives from various agencies at five additional workshops; hosted an information and resource table at the Youth Vendor Fair; recruited CAC members from underrepresented areas of the state; and nominated Emerging Leaders to share their stories of inclusive employment, education, housing, and/or recreation with other Montanans.

UGA to Launch Inclusive, Post-secondary education program in 2017 (GA UCEDD)

Students with intellectual or developmental disabilities will soon be able to enjoy the full UGA experience with the launching of a new inclusive, post-secondary education program, Destination Dawgs, beginning in spring 2017.

Police Get Disabilities Sensitivity Training (VIUCEDD)

About 100 Virgin Islands police cadets and officers received just such training last week, in workshops conducted on St. Thomas and St. Croix by Kimberly Mills, associate director of the Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

The Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire has recently completed five years of reasearch under the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Employment Policy and Measurement (EPM-RRTC), grant-funded by NIDILRR.

Iowa UCEDD Collaborating to Make "Employment First" a Reality in Iowa

The Iowa Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) held its annual employment summit in Des Moines. Dr. SueAnn Morrow, an Employment Services Specialist with the Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD-Iowa's UCEDD), working with Iowa's Money Follows the Person program which CDD administers, served as a conference coordinator. She reports that over 150 individuals attended the summit, and that it was one of the most successful in her tenure as an Iowa APSE board member.

Leading the State: The Institute for Person-Centered Practices (TX UCEDD)

The Institute for Person-Centered Practices (IPCP) is a collaborative partnership between the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University and the Center for Disability Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Both are University Centers for Excellence in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDS) and part of a larger network of 67 centers.

The New England Genetics Collaborative Announces an Innovative Partnership with the Genetic Metabolic Center for Education (NH UCEDD/LEND)

The New England Genetics Collaborative (NEGC), a project housed at the Institute on Disability (IOD) at the University of New Hampshire, is pleased to announce a first-of-its-kind partnership with and the Genetic Metabolic Center for Education (GMCE) to create a consulting and educational platform able to support the diagnosis and treatment of inherited metabolic disorders throughout New England.

Research to Policy Advocacy Leadership Training Grant (VA UCEDD/LEND)

The Department of Special Education and Disability Policy at Virginia Commonwealth University has been awarded a five year Leadership Grant that will provide funding for 10 doctoral students who are interested in becoming University Faculty in special education with experience in disability policy.

HDI's Family Mentorship Program Kicks into High Gear (KY UCEDD/LEND)

Human Development Institute (HDI) has led a family mentorship program that matches university students with families including a child or adolescent with a significant disability in order to give the students a chance to interact with these families outside of a clinical or academic setting and learn first-hand from the family's experience. As a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, HDI's family mentorship program prepares students for their future work as professionals and clinicians working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
