Vanderbilt Consortium LEND
The Vanderbilt Consortium LEND program has provided far reaching opportunities for trainees to gain expertise in family-centered care, to become familiar with community resources, and to develop an interprofessional problem solving mindset. In addition to providing rigorous leadership training and an intensive 24-week core series on topics ranging from life course to ethics, from specific diagnoses to medical home, from newborn screening to policy, the core curriculum and leadership seminars have reinforced the importance of interprofessional and family-centered care within the healthcare setting. These learning experiences have aided our understanding of our role as part of a healthcare team and have helped expand our knowledge of the roles of other professionals we work alongside.

Transition Bootcamp (OH UCEDD)
This year's Transition Bootcamp event was our largest and most successful to date. Thank you to all of our 65+ vendors and sponsors for your financial contribution, making the event so successful; to our 300+ attendees for taking the time of out your busy schedules to increase your knowledge; to our 40+ committee members and volunteers for selflessly doing whatever was asked; and to our 50+ presenters for sharing your expertise and wisdom with the group.

ADOS Training at NJLEND
New Jersey LEND Fellows, faculty discipline coordinators, administration and staff, as well as pediatric clinicians from Children's Specialized Hospital, a NJLEND clinical partner, participated in a two-day ADOS-2 Clinical Workshop. The workshop was led by Dr. Whitney Guthrie, ADOS-2 Independent Trainer. Dr. Guthrie is an author of the ADOS-2 Toddler Module and works at the Center for Autism Research, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The training took place at The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, NJ's UCEDD and LEND, and part of the Department of Pediatrics at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Partnership Spotlight: Iowa's UCEDD and Title V CYSHCN Program
The Iowa UCEDD has a long history of collaboration with the Child Health Specialty Clinics (CHSC), which administers Iowa's Title V Maternal and Child Health Program for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) in partnership with the Iowa Department of Public Health. Being co-located for many years has enabled the UCEDD and CHSC to forge formal and informal partnerships from collaborating on grants to convening informal brown bag lunches to discuss emerging state and federal policy issues.

The Student "Draft IEP" Tool at WIHD UCEDD/LEND
WIHD has updated its popular Student "Draft IEP" Tool (http://hvsepc.org/student-draft-iep-interactive-tool/). The tool, developed by Naomi Brickel, helps students to prepare information for IEP development and generate their own "draft IEP" to share with the rest of the IEP team. This serves to increase student understanding of the IEP process and facilitates student participation in IEP discussions. Research indicates that students who are involved in their special education program planning are more successful in school. However, many students do not even attend their IEP meetings, and of those who do, few participate in a meaningful way.

American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Children with Disabilities - A Resource You Should Know About!
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Children with Disabilities (COCWD) is comprised of over 600 diverse physician members (eg, neurodevelopmental pediatricians, developmental and behavioral pediatricians, geneticists, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, physical medical and rehabilitation pediatricians, and general pediatricians) who care for or have an interest in children and youth with disabilities, including those with complex needs.

Family Engagement Quality Improvement: A "How-To" Implementation Toolkit
The National Center for Medical Home Implementation conducted a nation-wide family engagement quality improvement project to enhance family engagement in the pediatric medical home. As a result of this project, a Web-based toolkit was developed; it provides tools and resources needed for implementing family engagement quality improvement projects in clinical practice or through multi-site learning collaboratives.

Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Partners with Cincinnati LEND Program to Improve Access and Inclusion for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Their Families
The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden (CZBG), in partnership with the Cincinnati Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) program, was recently awarded a Museums for America grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to advance its goal of becoming one of the nation's most welcoming, accessible, and inclusive zoos for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Anchor for Access and Inclusion project was one of 132 projects selected from 558 grant applications nationally.

Project SALT Team Presents at Family Cafe 2017 (FL UCEDD/LEND)
The University of Miami Mailman Center for Child Development sent six members from the Project Self-Advocate Leadership Training (SALT) Team to the Family Cafe, from June 16th to June 18th of 2017: Shelly Baer, LCSW and founder of Project SALT, Joanne Palenzuela, co-founder of SALT; Damian Gregory, advocate and speaker; Denise Prehay, advocate and SALT Trainer; Tracy Seaton, advocate, Special Olympics athlete and assistant SALT Trainer; and Jairo Arana, advocate and SALT Trainer.

RTS Event at the Cincinnati Zoo (OH UCEDD/LEND)
RTS (Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome) is a genetic multi-system disorder characterized by facial abnormalities, broad thumbs and great toes, and developmental disability. The condition was first described in 1963 by Dr. Jack Rubinstein and Dr. Hooshang Taybi and it is estimated that 1 out of 300,000 people have this syndrome

IN LEND Collaborates on Project to Develop Training for Family Leaders
The Riley Child Development Center is excited to share this free training that was guided by MCH leadership competencies. Indiana families now have access to a new web-based training which will help them build knowledge and skills in the area of family leadership! Building Family Leaders will give families access to the tools they need to be empowered to lead, advocate and engage as partners in the systems that serve their children. The idea for the Building Family Leaders modules was born during a statewide meeting of the Family Leadership Council.
