The Crip, the Fat and the Ugly in an Age of Austerity: Resistance, Reclamation, and Affirmation Forum
A special June 2018 forum entitled �The Crip, The Fat and The Ugly in an Age of Austerity: Resistance, Reclamation, and Affirmation has been published in the Review of Disability Studies (RDS) Journal. The forum includes a series of articles exploring the processes and politics of austerity upon diverse and marginalized embodiments-how capitalism makes sense of and shapes body-minds; the ways in which austerity both marks and produces bodies and selves, and the means through which these are further shaped by disability, race, class, gender, age, size, sexuality, and nation. Articles for this forum were compiled by RDS Guest Editors, Dr. Jen Slater of Sheffield Hallam University and Dr. Kirsty Liddiard of The University of Sheffield (United Kingdom).

Community-Based Interventions: Access to Assistive Technology for Latinos with Disabilities: Success Comes from Collaboration (IL UCEDD/LEND)
Although Hispanics are the largest minority in the U.S., research indicates that there is a significant gap in knowledge about assistive technology (AT). Over the course of three years, I have been collaborating with the Assistive Technology Unit (ATU) located at the University of Illinois at Chicago and The Autism Program of Illinois in order to provide Latinos with disabilities (LWDs) and their families with culturally and linguistically relevant resources about AT.

IU's Indiana Institute on Disability and Community Receives Funding to Advance Policy and Practice (IN UCEDD)
Indiana University's Indiana Institute on Disability and Community has been awarded a five-year, $2.7 million grant to develop and advance the transfer of research and new knowledge in the field of disability studies from the university setting to communities around Indiana, the nation and the globe.

John Kramer Publishes Article "Siblinghood Through Disability Studies Perspectives" (MA UCEDD/LEND)
John Kramer, a research associate at the ICI, just published an article in Disability & Society. Kramer's article, which he co-wrote with Ariella Meltzer of the University of New South Wales Australia, is called "Siblinghood through disability studies perspectives: Diversifying discourse and knowledge about siblings with and without disabilities."

The Boggs Center (NJ UCEDD) Celebrates its 30th Anniversary and Elizabeth Boggs 100th Birthday Year
The Boggs Center, New Jersey's UCEDD, celebrated its 30th anniversary and namesake Elizabeth Boggs' 100th birthday year on Friday, September 27th, with an invitational colloquium focusing on "The Power of Listening in Building a Valued Future." The theme of listening to those for whom we work was woven throughout the event by featured speakers including state and university officials, AUCD colleagues, former students and trainees, self-advocates, and family members.
