DEVELOPMENTS: THE AUTISM INTERVENTION RESEARCH NETWORK ON PHYSICAL HEALTH (AIR-P)

The Autism Intervention Research Network on Physical Health (AIR-P) is an interdisciplinary, multicenter research network that aims to increase the life expectancy and quality of life for autistic individuals.  

The AIR-P supports innovative life course intervention research in six key areas (Research Nodes):

  1. Primary Care Services and Quality
  2. Community-based Lifestyle Interventions
  3. Gender, Sexuality, and Reproductive Health
  4. Health Systems and Services
  5. Neurology
  6. Genetics

Below are some highlighted network activities and achievements since the start of 2022:

  • Our first Pediatrics supplement, “Promoting Lifespan Health and Well-Being Through the Autism Intervention Research Network”, was published on April 1st and includes 20 articles on our network’s structure and focus areas in autism research
  • AIR-P supported the release of the 2022 National Autism Indicators Report, which highlights the intersection of autism, health, poverty, and racial inequity
  • Our AIR-P Scholars Program has awarded over $400k to 14 early-to-mid-stage autism investigators for studies that aim to improve the physical health of autistic individuals
  • As a network, we have published over 60 peer-reviewed publications and over 200 dissemination activities* since September 2020

WHAT’S NEXT:

AIR-P is currently reviewing applications for the third round of the AIR-P Scholars & Pilot and Feasibility Funding program. Funding decisions will be announced in August 2022.
