The Road to Recovery: Supporting Children with IDD Who Have Experienced Trauma
While both adults and children with IDD experience abuse, neglect, institutionalization, abandonment, bullying and other types of trauma at rates much higher than the general population, the mental health needs of individuals with IDD are often ignored. Individuals with IDD exhibiting challenging behaviors often do not receive state-of-the-art mental health treatment and instead, the focus is often on compliance and behavior management. The goal of this webinar is to increase the awareness of the impact of trauma on children with IDD and to promote the provision of trauma-informed care for children with IDD and co-occurring mental health conditions.
