Disability Policy Seminar Orientation For Students, Trainees, and Early Career Professionals

This webinar, presented by Kim Musheno, Director of Public Policy at AUCD, offered students, trainees and early career professionals an orientation to the policy issues and current legislation one can expect to learn more about at the 2014 Disability Policy Seminar. In addition to this content, attendees learned the basics of how to meet with Congressional representatives and deliver a unified message about federally funded programs that benefit people with disabilities.

2014 LEND Pre-EHDI Workshop: Autism Spectrum Disorder and Children Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

On April 13, 2014, LEND students and trainees will participate in active learning strategies and case-based discussions around working with children with autism spectrum disorder and hearing loss. Participants will be placed in large and small group settings and will be encouraged to share personal experiences and best practices while reviewing case studies. 2014 Early Hearing Detection & Intervention Meeting

In its 13th year, the EHDI Meeting has built a strong reputation for bringing together a wide variety of attendees including those who: work in state Early Hearing Detection and Intervention programs; assist in EHDI efforts on the federal level; provide screening, diagnostic and early intervention support at the state/ local level to young children with hearing loss and their families; champion Medical Home activities within each state; are parents of children with hearing loss; or are deaf or hard-of-hearing adults who are helping to expand opportunities for young children with hearing loss. EHDI Meeting participants will range from state and local programs to the federal level and from academics to families.

Important research will be shared related to the visual modality and what happens when as Petitto's says, "the lion's share of knowledge comes from the eyes." What is the impact of that on brain structure and brain function? And particularly, how does this relate to early language acquisition? This webinar will use a different format from previous webinars. The first part will feature a pre-recorded tour of the Brain Lab with Petitto and her lab assistants. During the second part, Petitto will interact with viewers in a live question-and-answer session. A webinar offered by the Laurent Clerk National Deaf Education Center.

Pediatric Audiology: Evaluating the Hearing of Infants and Toddlers

Idahos Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program and the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) are partnering to offer another exciting training opportunity for audiologists. This instruction will enhance knowledge and skills in the assessment for hearing loss in infants and toddlers. In addition, this training will provide strategies to ensure appropriate intervention is provided to children with hearing loss. The educational opportunity combines 5 weeks of online preparation with a two-day, on-site workshop emphasizing clinical procedures and hands-on practicum.

2015 Pre-EHDI LEND Workshop

LEND audiology trainees and faculty are invited to take a deep dive into Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) policy. Trainees will learn about the basis for EHDI legislation, identify and discuss key issues that lawmakers are currently being asked to consider, and work in teams to develop effective advocacy strategies. There will be special emphasis placed on EHDI reauthorization and its implications for how state programs are carried out.

As part of Network activities, the AIR-P/ATN holds a monthly webinar series titled "Advances in Autism Research & Care" (AARC) which alternates autism research and care themes, and is available to all AIR-P/ATN network members, CAAI-sponsored programs, the entire LEND and DBP Fellowship networks, various other autism and pediatric organizations, collaborators, primary care providers, as well as autism advocates. Research webinars feature current AIR-P research study investigators, while care focused themes cover hot topics in the field of autism, and promote idea generation for future research.
