This webinar included feature presentations from trainees within two LEND pediatric audiology programs: Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and Boston Children's Hospital. Case vignettes were presented by LEND audiologists to highlight not only learning within pediatric audiology but how this learning relates to the core competencies of LEND. Cases were chosen by LEND trainees to highlight the complexity of providing appropriate audiological diagnosis and management in light of other medical or social challenges. Funded through the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), the MCHB/AUCD LEND Pediatric Audiology Training Program supports 10 LEND programs to increase the didactic content and clinical experience of trainees in pediatric audiology. This webinar series was created to provide a leadership opportunity for LEND trainees/fellows from these funded programs, allowing them to present their experiences in pediatric audiology within the LEND interdisciplinary setting. Each webinar features presentations by LEND pediatric audiology trainees.

Workshop Overview Our knowledge of the genetic basis for disease has expanded exponentially in the last few decades, and in the future these discoveries will guide the evaluation and treatment of patients and their families. Therefore, competency in basic clinical genetics is essential for all healthcare professionals and should be integrated into LEND and UCEDD educational experiences. In this workshop a team-based learning format will be used to provide the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will help participants integrate genetics into the care that they provide to individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Emergency preparedness is an essential part of living for any individual or family. For those with intellectual disabilities, their families, or those providing support, however, emergency preparedness may require more specific plans of support. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a number of resources to prepare and support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities before, during, and after natural disasters. Of key importance is the implementation of self-determination practices in this area. One example of this implementation is the ?Feeling Safe, Being Safe? training curriculum through which individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have become advocates and trainers in emergency preparedness.

This webinar was composed of two distinct components. The first set of presentations introduced research projects conducted by current and former trainees. This conference for Audiologists and Hearing Aid Dispensers will explore current issues related to hearing loss in children throughout the continuum of care. Topics covered will address the clinical application of Otoacoustic Emissions and Auditory Brainstem Response testing, as well as pediatric case management.

The development of support groups for families and individuals with disabilities can be a vital outreach and research component of UCEDDs/LENDs. Implementing culturally and linguistically competent support groups for diverse populations will provide UCEDDs/LENDs the opportunity to serve underserved populations while developing trust and relationships to increase diversity in research projects. This webinar presented best practices on developing culturally and linguistically competent support groups and utilizing support groups in research. Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities highlighted two of its projects: Hispanic Parent Support Group and Parent Stress Intervention Research Project.
