Enhancing Faculty Knowledge and Practices Related to Students with Disabilities in Higher Education
This half-day Capacity Building Institute will focus on implementation of a model training program developed at the University of Hawai?i that enhances faculty awareness and skills related to students with disabilities. The model program focuses on three key topics: (a) Universal Design for Learning, (b) Cultural Diversity, and (c) Mentoring. Participants in the Institute will view a presentation about the training modules, and explore strategies for enhancing faculty development programs and education efforts to better integrate disability awareness and disability studies concepts into the postsecondary classroom.

2011 State of the Art Conference on Postsecondary Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities

2011 AUCD Conference

Equitable Transitions to Adulthood: Issues of Cultural and Social Capital
Research demonstrates that cultural and social capital are important levers in both transition education and the pursuit of equity across diverse groups of people. In this presentation, specific types of cultural and social capital relevant to special education was identified, their potential to impact positive postschool outcomes explained, and the implications for research and practice that take into consideration culture and diversity as complex, interactional variables was discussed.

NCEDC Webinar: Self-Advocacy Online & Research Translation: Fuller Participation for Individuals with ID/DD
Self-Advocacy Online is an educational and networking website for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is a place to find accessible information on current topics in self-advocacy. Key areas of the site include a listing of self-advocacy groups, a video story wall, an online learning center, and research studies translated into accessible documents.
