About this Webinar:

This webinar will offer interested potential applicants an opportunity to interact with AUCD Leadership Academy faculty. The webinar will feature a brief overview of the 2021 Academy curriculum and timeline.This will be followed by a time for questions from potential applicants to the 2021 AUCD Leadership Academy. In addition, alumni will share their reflections about the benefits they gained from participation in the week-long academy and the follow-up activities. 


The AUCD Leadership Academy is a year-long program designed to enhance the skills of current and emerging leaders from the disability network to build coalitions to improve systems of supports and services. The Leadership Academy seeks participants from UCEDDs, LENDs, and their disability community partners to come together to grow in leadership, build connections, and enact meaningful change in their sphere of influence. The Academy includes a weeklong intensive where participants immerse themselves in study, shared experiences, self-evaluation, and skill development. Participants will then engage with their cohort, Academy staff, local coaches, and national allies in regularly scheduled virtual meetings in the year following the experience. The Academy will focus on the exploration of shared values and commitments to civil and human rights, assessments of personal and leadership strengths, skills in building partnerships to achieve collective impact, and establishing personal and professional leadership goals.

Who should apply

The academy seeks participants from UCEDDs, LENDs, and their partner organizations. Past participants have included representatives from all levels in their organizations, particularly individuals who are considering taking on new roles in their organizations. We strongly encourage individuals with disabilities, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, to apply.

Final application deadline: March 1, 2021; Decisions will be made by March 15, 2021.

Daniel Crimmins
Director, Center for Leadership in Disability at Georgia State University.

Daniel Crimmins, PhD, serves as Director of the Center for Leadership in Disability and Professor of Public Health at Georgia State University. In this position, he oversees a range of academic, training, technical assistance, research, and model service programs that contribute to the independence, inclusion, and productivity of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages. Throughout his career, Dr. Crimmins has worked to improve the capacity of organizations and individuals to provide evidence-based behavioral and educational interventions for children and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities. He is the lead developer of www.positivebehaviorvideos.org, a website that includes videos that describe the positive behavior supports process, a positive behavior supports planning tool, and interventions that can be used by teachers, child care providers, and parents.

Jeiri Flores
Self-Advocacy Discipline Coordinator, 
University of Rochester LEND 

Jeiri (“Jaydee”) Flores is a strong, passionate Puerto Rican disability rights activist from Rochester, NY. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in the study of Sociology and African-American Studies at SUNY Brockport in 2014. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in the study of Human Development at the University of Rochester Warner School. As a disability advocate, Jeiri shares her unique perspective at various colleges and conferences where she introduces attendees to the struggles and invisibility people with disabilities face. She provides insight regarding inclusion, citizenship, disability intersectionality, and challenges that remain unaddressed by society. She hopes to influence young disabled people to fulfill their purpose and create a new narrative for what it means to be disabled.

Jeiri was a 2018 participant in the AUCD Leadership Academy.

Psychologist, USC UCEDD at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles

The ten years Micah has spent as a psychologist at the USC UCEDD at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles have been the most stimulating, demanding, and rewarding years of his career. As a trauma psychologist, he has become keenly aware of the overlap between trauma and developmental problems among children, particularly those from traditionally underserved populations. As a clinician, he works primarily with youth and families in foster care. After gaining experience in this role, he became increasingly aware of the elevated risk of developmental delay and disability facing children with early childhood trauma and perinatal neglect. Similarly, it was all too clear how children with developmental disabilities were at increased risk for trauma and victimization. As he looks ahead in my career, he hopes to broaden his ability to support the mental health and developmental needs of underserved children and their families who have experienced trauma and require support from multiple systems of care to address their needs and offset risk factors they face. And while his vision for his own professional growth has clarified, he has recognized the areas in which he will need to grow in order to achieve his career goals.
