He has a BA in psychology from Central College, Pella, Iowa, and an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Iowa. Having experienced blindness from birth, Mike has a first-hand knowledge of many of the barriers which persons with disabilities must overcome. This personal experience, combined with professional experience as an advocate and program administrator, has given him the knowledge to be a strong proponent of disability inclusion and teacher of self-determination. Because of Mike's strong commitment to leadership development and peer support, many individuals with disabilities are now taking charge of their lives and creating change in their communities.
