Webinar Description

This webinar featured presentations from trainees within two LEND pediatric audiology programs: The Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin and the Vanderbilt LEND at the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center.

Speakers

The Waisman Center, University of Wisconsin

  • Jon Douglas, AuD, CCC-A: Dr. Douglas is the LEND audiology faculty member at the Waisman Center.
  • Trista Fugate: Trista is a third year Au.D. student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She began her MCH-LEND training in the Fall of 2011.
  • Jenna Woestman: Jenna is a third year Au.D. student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She began her MCH-LEND training in the Fall of 2011.

Vanderbilt LEND at the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center  

  • Anne Marie Tharpe, PhD: Dr. Tharpe is Professor and Chair of the Department of Hearing & Speech Sciences and the Associate Director at the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center.
  • Emily Fustos: Emily is a first-year Doctor of Audiology student at Vanderbilt University. She received her bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State University. Emily has a great passion for working with children in the field of pediatric audiology since she wears two cochlear implants herself, growing up with one cochlear implant since age 2 and receiving the second at age 20.
  • Amanda Headley: Amanda is an international student from Trinidad and Tobago pursuing her Doctor of Audiology at Vanderbilt University. As a first year student, Amanda is a pursuing a specialty track in pediatric Audiology and is passionate about providing clinical services to underserved populations in developing countries. She is an enthusiastic LEND trainee who enjoys serving children and special needs populations.
  • Amy Rogers: Amy is a second year AuD student at Vanderbilt University with a special interest in pediatric audiology. She is actively involved in Vanderbilt's remote newborn hearing screening and diagnostic testing program and plans on completing her capstone project in this area.

 


 

About the MCHB/AUCD Pediatric Audiology Webinar Series

Funded through the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), the MCHB/AUCD LEND Pediatric Audiology Training Program supports 10 LEND programs to increase the didactic content and clinical experience of trainees in pediatric audiology. This webinar series was created to provide a leadership opportunity for LEND trainees/fellows from these funded programs, allowing them to present their experiences in pediatric audiology within the LEND interdisciplinary setting. Each webinar features presentations by LEND pediatric audiology trainees.

Webinar Series Objectives

  1. Describe challenging pediatric audiology case studies in view of cultural differences
  2. Explain the diagnostic process for arriving at a hearing loss diagnosis
  3. Describe the audiological management provided to children with hearing loss in light of other medical or social challenges
  4. Identify LEND competencies as they relate to the cases presented                                    
  5. Illustrate how LEND core competencies impact care and management of children with hearing loss
