2012 National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course

This continuing education program focuses on the improvement of maternal and infant health through the delivery of risk-appropriate high-quality nutrition services. It is designed for dietitians, nutritionists, certified nurse midwives, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, physicians and public health professionals who serve preconceptual, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women.

This year's conference topics include:

  • The role of nutrition in gene expression and occurrence of birth defects
  • Assessing and interpreting growth velocity in young children with an emphasis on slow growth
  • Nutrition interventions for at-risk infants including failure to thrive and NICU graduates
  • Understanding and improving parental feeding skills
  • Communicating weight issues with caregivers
  • Cue-based lactation and infant feeding
  • Community-based approaches to child obesity prevention

Special Event: Influencer Training

Dave Angel will be presenting a special half-day skill-building workshop on how to influence and create behavior change in yourself and others. This workshop will take place on July 27.

Dave Angel is a Master Certified Trainer in Crucial Conversations®, Crucial Confrontations®, Influencer TrainingTM and has over 25 years of experience. He has extensive experience introducing and teaching these crucial skills to healthcare executives, physician leaders, nurse leaders, and clinical support staff.

This mini workshop is only available through onsite registration. Individuals can register for this mini workshop separately. There are a limited numbers of seats available for the workshop-only registration.

Distance Learning Opportunities

Distance education options are available for the sessions held on July 25-26. Up to 12.5 CEUs are available for distance viewers. The distance education program will be available from August 17 through October 19. Register for distance learning.
