The management of cerebral palsy has been part of our practices for many years. Exciting changes are occurring in the field. This one-day conference will update practitioners with new research, new therapies and new approaches to maximizing a child's participation and improving their quality of life. Workshops will provide clinicians with practical information to incorporate into practice.

This conference is intended for physicians, nurses, OTs, PTs, SLPs, nutritionists, educators, parents, social workers and other healthcare professionals caring for children with special needs. CME Category 1, CEARP accreditation and Clock Hours will be provided.

Participants will be able to:

• Gain an understanding of the importance of parent/self observations in the evaluation and treatment of the infant/child/young adult with cerebral palsy.
• Be knowledgeable about the evidence supporting the promotion of activity in persons with cerebral palsy in contrast to previous approaches that restricted activity so as not to exacerbate spasticity or impair movement quality.
• Describe physical activity measurement related to capability and performance physical activity in daily life.
• List three ways to locate an adult care provider.
• Learn about various medical and surgical interventions for the management of spasticity.
• Understand the principles and benefits of constraint induced therapy (CIT) in pediatrics.
• Understand the importance of distinguishing dystonia from spasticity.
• Understand the basic principles and specific techniques of assessing and strengthening muscles in persons with cerebral palsy.
